Why creatives need consistent filenames
Project folders quickly balloon with RAW files, proxy clips, stems, and multiple versions of assets. Consistent filenames let you sort, deliver, and archive without guesswork β and they prevent costly mistakes when collaborating or archiving.
How it works
Drop a project folder into ListAndRename β the app exports the file list to Excel. Edit the New Name column using formulas or manual edits, save, preview in the app, then click Rename. The app applies changes safely and produces a log.
Common workflows
- Photographers: Convert RAWs to Client_Date_Seq.CR2 for delivery and backup.
- Video editors: Standardize clip names to match sequences and scenes.
- Audio engineers: Rename stems and takes for handoff: Project_Track_T03_v02.wav.
Tip: Use Excel formulas to automatically generate padded sequences and dates β Excel handles the heavy lifting so you donβt type patterns manually.
Rename thousands of media files in minutes.
Export your project folder to Excel, edit names using formulas, preview, and rename β all locally and safely.

Example: a photo shoot
- Drop Client_Shoot_20251031 into the app β Excel opens with the file list.
- Add columns Client, Date, Seq and compose a formula like =Client & "_" & TEXT(Date,"yyyymmdd") & "_" & TEXT(Seq,"000") & "." & Extension.
- Save, preview, and click Rename. Your files are updated and logged.
Note: Edit only the New Name column before saving β the app matches rows to files and manages other columns automatically.
